Welcome to The Leenane Hotel, located
in the village of Leenane in Co Galway, Ireland. Overlooking Killary
Harbour, Ireland's only fjord, the Hotel enjoys what is perhaps
one of the most scenic locations in Ireland.
The Leenane Hotel has played host to Kings and Mortals
for the last three centuries and like all good things, has improved
with age! Originally established as a Coaching Inn, the earliest
records show that there has been an establishment in existence
here since the 1790's. As you would expect, standards have come
a long way since then but you will still find that the essential
character of the Hotel and the surrounding area remains. We pride
ourselves in providing a warm welcome, the highest standards of
hospitality and a fine dining experience.
A description in 'Black's Guide to Galway, Connemara
and the West of Ireland', written and printed by Adam and Charles
Black of London in 1899, is still comparable even in today's World.
"The Hotel accommodation is of the first
rank in Ireland and indeed this is so well known a fact that intending
visitors will do well to write for beds beforehand. At any rate
the popular comparison of Killary Harbour with some four syllabled
Norwegian Fjord appears to be somewhat strange. It is, we take
it, the outcome of evening chat and indeed a rich sunset can bathe
even Oxford street with a glow as new and transforming as that
which irradiates the mind of man after a well cooked table d'hôte".
The Leenane Hotel is family operated, with your
hosts, Conor and Brian Foyle representing the third generation
of family Hoteliers. This invaluable experience and insight enables
them to provide guests with the best possible standards of service
and fine cuisine; offering a truly unique experience in one of
Ireland's oldest Hotels.
The Hotel underwent complete refurbishment from
1996 to 1999, with the goal of providing modern standards of comfort
and accommodation, without sacrificing the building's character
and unique charm. You will find that every rooms has its own distinct
attribute, with most containing beautiful pieces of original antique
furniture, obtained throughout Ireland, maintaining the Hotel's
old world decor. Most of the luxury ensuite bedrooms overlook
the harbour but we would advise guests to specify a sea view on
booking to avoid disappointment.
The Hotel's reception rooms and facilities are all
located on the ground floor. A welcoming open fire provides a
cosy and inviting atmostphere in the Hotel Bar overlooking the
sea. What better way to enjoy your favourite tipple, before making
you way through to the Restaurant for ultimate in fine dining.
All of our produce is locally grown and of the highest standards,
with regional specialities such as fresh Killary Bay Salmon and
Rack of Connemara Mountain Lamb highly recommended.
